Dual Analyte Detection: Free cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) is intrinsically unstable and progressively loses immunoreactivity in solution, while most troponin reference materials contain either Troponin I or Troponin C alone. Spectral’s single-chain Troponin I–C proteins (RP-3500 and RP-3700) covalently link cTnI and cTnC into a single molecule, preserving immunoreactivity, enabling dual antibody recognition with fixed stoichiometry, and providing a more stable and consistent reference material across multiple assay formats [Liu et al., Clin Lab. 2001;47(1–2):19–27. PMID: 11214219].
Product Applications
For Immunoassays
RP-3500 and RP-3700 are used as calibrators and control materials in troponin-based immunoassays, while RP-8100 performs the same functions in NT-proBNP assays.
These recombinant proteins support the generation of accurate calibration curves and provide reliable quality control, helping ensure consistent assay performance across testing runs.
For IVD Development
These recombinant proteins are designed to support all stages of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) assay development, from early feasibility studies through to validation and commercialization. Their high purity, well-defined structure, and consistent biochemical properties enable reliable calibration, analytical evaluation, and reproducibility, helping developers achieve the sensitivity, specificity, and lot-to-lot consistency required for robust diagnostic assays.
For Western Blotting
The same proteins can be used as quality control materials and reference standards in Western blot applications to monitor assay performance. RP-3700, at approximately 30 kDa and >95% purity, provides a clear reference band for troponin detection, while RP-8100, at approximately 9 kDa per subunit, is well suited for low-molecular-weight NT-proBNP detection.

Cardiac Biomarker Proteins – Frequently Asked Questions
What are recombinant cardiac biomarker proteins used for?
Recombinant cardiac biomarker proteins are used as calibrators, controls, and reference materials in diagnostic assays such as troponin and NT-proBNP immunoassays. They enable accurate quantification of cardiac biomarkers and support consistent assay performance.
These proteins are widely used across diagnostic instrument platforms, IVD kit development, and laboratory research applications.
What is the difference between RP-3500 and RP-3700 recombinant troponin proteins?
RP-3500 and RP-3700 are both recombinant Troponin I-C fusion proteins expressed in E. coli, but differ in purity and design. RP-3500 is a first-generation protein (~44 kDa) with >85% purity, while RP-3700 is a second-generation, affinity-purified recombinant protein (~30 kDa) with >95% purity.
RP-3700 incorporates a refined Troponin I fragment (amino acids 28–110) fused to Troponin C, making it the preferred choice for applications requiring higher purity and performance, such as sensitive immunoassays and IVD development.
Do these recombinant proteins contain animal- or human-derived materials?
No, all Spectral recombinant cardiac biomarker proteins are produced using E. coli expression systems and contain no animal-derived or human-derived components. This ensures high consistency, reduced variability, and suitability for regulated diagnostic applications, including IVD manufacturing.
Are bulk quantities available for OEM and IVD manufacturing?
Yes, Spectral offers bulk quantities of recombinant cardiac biomarker proteins to support OEM and IVD manufacturing requirements. Standard sizes range from 0.1 mg to 10 mg, with larger volumes available under customized supply agreements. This flexibility supports both early-stage development and large-scale commercial production.
Can Spectral support long-term OEM or supply agreements?
Yes, Spectral supports long-term supply through established Material Supply Agreements and Quality Agreements. These frameworks enable consistent supply of qualified recombinant proteins from initial evaluation through to full-scale manufacturing.
What quality and technical documentation is available?
Each production lot is supplied with a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) confirming key parameters such as purity and concentration. Additional technical documentation can be provided to support assay development, validation, and regulatory submissions.
Spectral works with customers to meet specific documentation requirements for IVD and OEM applications.
What are the recommended storage and stability conditions?
Spectral recombinant cardiac biomarker proteins should be stored at -20°C to maintain stability and performance.
These proteins are designed for long shelf life under recommended storage conditions, supporting consistent use across extended development and manufacturing timelines.
How can I request product specifications or pricing information?
Product specifications and pricing information can be obtained by contacting Spectral directly. Pricing is typically based on order volume, with discounts available for bulk purchases and long-term supply agreements.
